The Zan Art project was initiated in February 2016 at Kidongo Chekundu Mental Hospital in Zanzibar. The participants are suffering from a variety of illnesses including schizophrenia, substance use disorder, depression and anxiety. The art sessions give participants the opportunity to express themselves in a creative way and participate in a social activity. The Zan Art exhibition aims to increase understanding about mental illness and tries to reduce stigma.
